Alexander is een veelzijdige contrabassist met een passie voor wereldmuziek, in het bijzonder de Argentijnse tango. Tegenwoordig is hij ook zeer actief in de wereld van de gypsy jazz. Alexander, een klassiek geschoolde bassist, heeft zich gedurende zijn carrière in verschillende muziekstijlen verdiepd en heeft hij zich aangesloten bij meerdere projecten of deze zelf opgezet, die stuk voor stuk hun eigen muzikale kleur hebben ontwikkeld.
Alexander, geboren in 1991 in Utrecht, groeide op in een muzikale familie en maakte op jonge leeftijd kennis met de gitaar. Op 5-jarige leeftijd begon zijn muzikale reis, en het werd al snel een belangrijk deel van zijn leven. Toen hij tijdens een bezoek aan het Rotterdams Philharmonisch Orkest voor het eerst in aanraking kwam met de contrabas, sloeg er direct een vonk over en het duurde dus ook niet lang voordat Alexander, op 8-jarige leeftijd, zijn eerste contrabasles nam aan de muziekschool in Utrecht, op zijn 1/10de formaat contrabas.
Alexander sloot zich aan bij een jeugdorkest en de contrabas nam een steeds grotere plek in in zijn leven, en zo stopte hij met het spelen van gitaar. Op 10-jarige leeftijd verplaatste zijn muzikale weg naar Rotterdam, waar hij contrabasles ging volgen bij Peter Leerdam, aan het conservatorium van Rotterdam (Codarts). Aanvankelijk in de jeugdtalentenklas en de vooropleiding van het conservatorium, om uiteindelijk door te stromen naar de bacheloropleiding. Gedurende deze tijd werd hij ook lid van het JeugdOrkest Nederland.
Terwijl Alexanders opleiding gericht was op klassieke muziek, werd zijn interesse in andere muziekgenres duidelijk toen hij op 16-jarige leeftijd de kans kreeg om te spelen in OTRA, het Argentijnse tango-orkest binnen de wereldmuziekafdeling van Codarts. Gefascineerd door tango vervolgde hij zijn studie aan de Argentijnse tangoafdeling van Codarts, waar hij studeerde bij Matthew Midgley. In 2014 rondde hij zijn bachelorstudie succesvol af.
Na het afronden van zijn bacheloropleiding besloot Alexander zich verder te specialiseren in de tango door een masteropleiding te volgen aan dezelfde afdeling. Gedurende twee jaar studeerde hij bij Matthew Midgley en Jasper Somsen. In zijn tijd bij Codarts bezocht hij meerdere malen Buenos Aires, het hart van de tango, waar hij lessen en masterclasses volgde bij gerenommeerde bassisten Ignacio Varchausky en Juan-Pablo Navarro. In 2016 behaalde hij met succes zijn masterdiploma.
Gedurende zijn hele carrière heeft Alexander het voorrecht gehad om met vele verschillende muzikanten samen te werken en projecten op te zetten, waaronder LocosLindos, Nuevo Nocturna, Walton/vanDuinen, Tigual Trio, Base & a Flyer en Roffa Tango Trio. En speelde onder meer in projecten met Gustavo Beytelmann, Victor Villena en Tania Kross.
Naast dat Alexander voornamelijk actief is binnen de Argentijnse tango, heeft hij zijn muzikale repertoire verruimd. Zo dook hij in de wereld van de gypsy jazz, en richtte zijn eigen trio op, genaamd Gypsy Jazz Trio Maasnouche, en heeft hij de eer gehad om op te treden met gitaarvirtuoos Paulus Schäfer en Christiaan van Hemert. Bovendien herontdekte hij zijn passie voor de gitaar en komt dit instrument weer veel voor in zijn muzikale bezigheden.

Alexander is a versatile double bass player with a passion for world music, particularly Argentinian tango. However, he has also ventured into the realm of gypsy jazz. Trained in classical double bass, Alexander has explored various musical styles throughout his career, participating in multiple projects and immersing himself in their unique musical flavors.
Born in 1991 in Utrecht, Alexander grew up in a musical family and was introduced to the guitar at a young age. At the age of 5, his musical journey began, and it quickly became a significant part of his life. When he encountered the double bass during a visit to the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, he felt an immediate connection. At the age of 8, he started taking double bass lessons at the music school in Utrecht, starting with a 1/10th size double bass.
Alexander’s dedication to the double bass intensified as he joined a local youth orchestra, leading him to leave the guitar behind. At the age of 10, he relocated to Rotterdam to pursue his musical path, studying under Peter Leerdam at the Rotterdam Conservatory (Codarts). Initially, he participated in the youth talent class and pre-education programs, eventually advancing to the bachelor’s studies. During this time, he also became a member of the Youth Orchestra of the Netherlands.
While Alexander’s training focused on classical music, his interest in other genres became evident at the age of 16 when he had the opportunity to play with OTRA, the Argentinian tango orchestra within the world music department of Codarts. Captivated by tango, he continued his studies at the Argentinian tango department of Codarts, studying under Matthew Midgley. In 2014, he successfully completed his studies.
After completing his bachelor’s degree, Alexander decided to pursue further specialization in tango by pursuing a master’s degree in the same department. Over the course of two years, he received main subject lessons from Matthew Midgley and Jasper Somsen. During his time at Codarts, he visited Buenos Aires, immersing himself in the heart of tango and taking lessons and masterclasses with renowned bassists Ignacio Varchausky and Juan-Pablo Navarro. He successfully obtained his master’s degree in June 2016.
Throughout his career, Alexander has had the privilege of collaborating with various musicians, establishing or joining ensembles such as LocosLindos, Nuevo Nocturna, Walton/vanDuinen, Tigual Trio, Base & a Flyer and Roffa Tango Trio. He has also had the opportunity to work alongside accomplished musicians such as Gustavo Beytelmann, Victor Villena and Tania Kross.
While Alexander primarily focuses on the world of Argentinian tango, he has diversified his musical repertoire. Exploring gypsy jazz, he founded his own trio called Gypsy Jazz Trio Maasnouche, and has had the honor of performing with guitar virtuoso Paulus Schäfer and Christiaan van Hemert. Additionally, he rediscovered his passion for the guitar and incorporated it into his musical pursuits.
